Garrard County High School's Esports teams just concluded their season with an impressive performance in both Mario Kart 8 and Super Smash Bros, securing spots in the first round of the state playoffs. The Velocity Golden Lions soared into the spotlight, clinching an impressive 29th position in the spring season standings. What's even more exciting is that Esports has been officially recognized as a KHSAA sanctioned sport, drawing the participation of over 1400 enthusiastic student athletes from across Kentucky this spring season, all competing through the esteemed platform of PlayVS. It's not just a game anymore; it's a thrilling journey of skill, strategy, and camaraderie, showcasing the immense talent and dedication of high school Esports athletes. Garrard County High School's achievement underscores the dynamic evolution and growing prestige of Esports within the realm of competitive sports.
Addey Lawson signed with Fort Scott Community College in Fort Scott, Kansas on a rodeo scholarship. Mike Tobin, President of the KY High School Rodeo Association shared with family and students about Addey's rodeo career since kindergarten. Addey was the 2021 All Around Rookie Cowgirl in the National High School Rodeo Association in Finals in Lincoln, Nebraska. She has also had a 9th place finish in Breakaway, 10th place finish in team roping and 4th place finish in breakaway roping at the National Finals. Addey is the daughter of Sam and Lesley Lawson and big sister to Morgan.

Congratulations to Garrard County High School's Job For America's Graduates (JAG) Program and Mr. Jimmie McCulley, for being recognized for exceeding the 6-of-6 Performance Outcome Standards for the Class of 2023. These standards include Graduation Rate, Employment Rate, Positive Outcome Rate, Full-Time Jobs Rate, Connectivity Rate, and Full-Time Placement Rate.
For the past six years, Mr. Jimmie McCulley has been guiding our students through the JAG program. Over 200 students have honed their leadership skills while collaborating with peers, local businesses, and the community. I am a recent graduate of Eastern Kentucky University with a Bachelors of Science in Family and Consumer Sciences Education. I am so excited to come back and teach our next generation of Golden Lions Family and Consumer Sciences. I know how wonderful the students are at GCHS and I can't wait to be a part of their high school journey. I will be getting married in May, so I will beginning next year as Mrs. Bowman. I can't wait for a great school year!"
