Garrard Middle School is hosting the first annual Jan Hurt Classic on Wednesday, August 24th, 2022 at 7:30PM.
Jan Hurt retired as a teacher from the Garrard County school System after 33 years of service in 2003. Additionally, she coached the GMS girls basketball team for 20 years. She helped lay the foundation for a successful middle school and high school basketball program in Garrard County.
Mrs. Hurt passed away on January 25, 2021. Garrard Middle School and Garrard County Schools would like to celebrate the impact she had on students and athletes she served in the Garrard County School system.

Garrard Middle School would like to welcome our new Math Teacher, Ms. Elle Montgomery!
Ms. Montgomery is a recent graduate of Eastern Kentucky University where she received a Bachelor's of Science in Middle Grades Education, focusing on Math and Science. She was born and raised here in the Garrard County community. Ms. Montgomery says, "I am happy to now be a teacher in the school that raised me--my mother and grandparents were all teachers here!" Ms. Montgomery has played sports her entire life and is currently an assistant coach for the high school softball team. Ms. Montgomery says, "I am recently engaged and looking forward to getting married next summer! In my free time, I love to spend time with family and friends, working out, and cheering on the Kentucky Wildcats! I am so excited to begin my career and the year ahead!"


Garrard Middle School would like to welcome our new Math Interventionist Teacher, Mrs. Tami Pickett!
Mrs. Pickett started her teaching career in Madison County where she taught for 10 years. Her career then brought her to Garrard County where she taught for 4 more years. From there she went on to work as a math consultant through the University of Kentucky and a private company called Making Math Magic, all while working as a adjunct math faculty member at EKU. She has worked the past 5 years as a math interventionist and coach at Camp Dock Robinson. She and her husband have two children, Joanna (23) and Connlee (14). In her free time, she enjoys crafting, and spending time with her friends and family.


Garrard Middle School would like to welcome our new Attendance Clerk, Mrs. Tammy Jeffries!
Mrs. Jeffries was born and raised in Harrodsburg, KY. She has lived in Garrard County for twenty-seven years with her husband Bruce. They have five children and six grandchildren. Mrs. Jeffries and her husband lived in El Salvador for four years, where they began a children’s ministry. Mrs. Jeffries says, "I love spending time with my family, and traveling to El Salvador; as the mission continues to grow. I am so excited to be a part of Garrard Middle School!"


Garrard County School staff and Central Office staff will be participating in Opening Day activities on August 8th 2022. Please keep in mind, Central Office and our schools will be closed from 10:00AM-1:00PM on August 8th.


We are excited to see our students tomorrow for our back to school event!📚✏️ Tomorrow, from 12:00PM-7:00PM, students and families can visit GMS to complete necessary online paperwork (if not already completed), pay fees, pick up student schedules, meet teachers and visit extracurricular tables!


Garrard Middle School would like to welcome our new Reading Interventionist, Ms. Linda Cottle!
Ms. Cottle was born and raised in Lexington, KY. She have lived in Nicholasville for thirty years. Ms. Cottle has four children: Jack, Matthew, Rebekah, and Nicholas. She has two grandchildren: Lillian and Charles. Ms. Cottle has taught for fourteen years, and was the former archery coach at EJMS. Ms. Cottle says, "I love to backpack, camp and hike. In fact, I have been section hiking the Appalachian Trail, but have a long way to go to reach the 2000 mile finish mark! I have a big fur baby, a Great Pyrenees named George. I can't wait to get this year started!"


Garrard Middle School would like to welcome our new Office Secretary, Mrs. Tara Reynolds!
Mrs. Reynolds recently worked in the kitchen at GMS, and from there learned that this school is where she wanted to be! Mrs. Reynolds says, "I am super excited to work with such a great district." Mrs. Reynolds has seventeen years of experience as a secretary at Baptist Health Lexington. She and her husband have three girls, and also have a German Shepherd named Harper. Mrs. Reynolds says, "In my spare time I enjoy Drag Racing, fishing, time by the pool, and spending time with my family and friends to name a few! I can not wait to step into this new role, and start off another great year at GMS!"

Please mark your calendars with the following dates: August 8th will be Opening Day for Staff only, August 9th will be Transition Day for only Kindergarten, 6th Grade and 9th Grade students and August 10th will be our official first day (all students).
