Garrard Middle School Academic Team Wins First Ever Governor’s Cup 11th Region Championship!
The Garrard Middle School Academic Team won the school’s first ever 11th Region Championship this past Saturday in dramatic fashion. The quick recall team of Parker Woolums, Eli Pevley, Emorie Martin, Olivia Wilson, Olivia Denny, Lucas Denton, Aaden Faircloth, Mattie Doolin and Walker Morris went undefeated en route to the school’s first ever Regional Quick Recall Title. The team defeated Marion County in the first round 22-5. In the 2nd round, they beat Southern Pulaski 24-5. The team continued to roll by sending Boyle County into the losers bracket with a score of 24-10. Finally, Garrard won the championship over Northern Pulaski 28-11. This will be the quick recall team’s first ever state appearance.

Garrard also was outstanding in assessments by winning 4 of the 5 testing categories. This was also a school record. Aaden Faircloth won the Social Studies Championship. Eli Pevley won the Science Championship. Olivia Denny is now the back to back regional champion in English Language Arts. Emorie Martin has won her fourth regional championship in a row in Arts and Humanities setting a state record. Kai Weaver(4th in Science), Natalie Lane(5th in Arts and Humanities), Parker Woolums(3rd in ELA), Aaden Faircloth(5th in Composition), Olivia Wilson(4th in Composition), and Austin Seagraves(4th in Mathematics). This will be the second straight year that Olivia Denny, Olivia Wilson, Emorie Martin, Natalie Lane, and Austin Seagraves have advanced to the state championship. The 10 students advancing to state in individual categories is also a school record.

The Future Problem Solving team of Katie Sharp, Ava Warren, Natalie Lane, and Emorie Martin also did outstanding by placing 3rd and gaining points for the team. The team also won the Sportsmanship award.
Coach Martin says, “I am so proud of all of these kids for the amount of studying and preparation that they did leading up to this regional competition. They deserve all of the accolades and awards that they earned. I am also so thankful for my coaching staff of William Wheat, Jessica Atallah, Diania Bowman, Jaylyn Gray, Alexandria Carrol, Colin Gilbert,Woods Martin, Brody Marcum, Mason Seagraves, and Alyssa Keeton that helped make this record breaking season possible.”
The team will next compete in the State Championship held at the Galt House in Louisville on March 17-20.
