Garrard County Schools recently hosted an inspiring Special Olympics event, featuring exceptional students from Lancaster Elementary, Paint Lick Elementary, Garrard Middle School, and Garrard County High School. Despite the rain, the event was a huge success, demonstrating the resilience and determination of our students.
Throughout the year, our GCS exceptional students have been working closely with peer mentors to prepare for various events. Their dedication paid off as they competed in activities such as Bocce Ball, Basketball, Soccer, Bowling, Cornhole, and parachute games. Additionally, students navigated a short obstacle course, showcasing their skills and perseverance.
The day saw a tremendous effort from everyone involved. Special Education Teachers and Administration from across the district attended to support and cheer on the students. Garrard County's Judge Executive, Mr. Roo Elleman, and Garrard County Sheriff, Mr. Willie Skeens also attended and joined in the fun by playing cornhole with one of our competitive middle school students.
Parents were also invited to attend and were thrilled to see the joy on their student's faces. The event highlighted the strong sense of community and support within the district.
Director of Special Education, Mrs. Wendy Congleton, reflected on the significance of the event by emphasizing the Special Olympics motto: "Let me win, but if I cannot win, let me be brave in the attempt." She remarked, "This motto speaks to all of us. Watching our students persevere and be so determined to succeed is a privilege. We are immensely proud of the support we receive from our school district, exceptional educators, families, and the community."
The event was a testament to the hard work and dedication of everyone involved, making it a memorable and uplifting experience for all participants.
