The "Southeast South Central Educational Cooperative Regional School Psychologist of the Year" is an award that recognizes an outstanding school psychologist in the Southeast South Central region. This award typically honors a school psychologist who has demonstrated exceptional dedication, skills, and contributions to the field of school psychology in their specific region. It is a recognition of their valuable work and commitment to promoting the well-being and educational success of students in their area. The specific criteria and selection process may vary, but the award generally aims to acknowledge the significant achievements and positive impact of school psychologists in their respective educational cooperatives. Dr. Kathryn "Katie" Guiney was awarded the Regional School Psychologist of the Year. She boasts more than two decades of experience as a dedicated school psychologist. Her professional journey commenced in her home state of New York before she relocated to Danville, Kentucky upon marrying her husband in 2006. During her seventeen-year tenure in Kentucky, Dr. Guiney has served as a full-time, part-time, and contract school psychologist, including a stint as a provider for First Steps. Predominantly associated with Mercer County Schools during her Kentucky years, she now embarks on her second year as a valued member of the Garrard County Schools’ team, where she previously worked as a contractor a decade ago. Dr. Guiney holds licensure as a psychologist and certification as a school psychologist in both Kentucky and New York, in addition to being a Nationally Certified School Psychologist. She resides in Danville with her husband and son, and the family shares a passion for hiking and traveling together. In her leisure time, Dr. Guiney not only attends her son's activities but also indulges in activities such as walking, reading, quality time with loved ones, active participation in her church community, and savoring delectable desserts. Wendy Congleton (Director of Special Education and Preschool/504 Coordinator) had this to say about Dr. Guiney, “Dr. Kathryn Guiney goes above and beyond, in and out of school, to apply her expertise in mental health, learning, and behavior, to help our students succeed academically, socially, behaviorally, and emotionally.”
